There are more than 692 and 779 F-box genes in the A. thaliana and rice genomes, respectively (Xu et al., 2009). Previous studies demonstrated that F-box proteins are involved in the regulation of several biological processes, including circadian clock, self-incompatibility, photomorphogenesis, floral meristem, phytohormonal signalling, and responses to abiotic stresses (Sullivan et al., 2003; Moon et al., 2004; Ni et al., 2004; Smalle and Vierstra, 2004; Dreher and Callis, 2007). For instance, the F-box protein TIR1/AFB can bind to the transcriptional repressor protein Aux/IAA, thus promoting their proteasomal degradation and activating auxin-induced transcription (Dharmasiri et al., 2005; Tan et al., 2007).
