Function
Dimerization is one of the most distinct characteristics of TFs, OsDREB1F was indicates that can form homodimeric complex by using two-hybrid system. So OsDREB1F was a transactivator, and the transactivation domain located in the C-terminal of OsDREB1F as well. It plays a key role in plant stress signalling transduction pathway which can specifically bind to DRE/CRT element (G/ACCGAC) and activate the expression of many stress inducible genes. Additionaly,OsDREB1F localizes in nucleus.[1]
Expression
OsDREB1F was constitutively expressed in almost all the tissues and organs examined, including the young leaves, young roots, mature leaves, mature roots, young panicles and callus, and the expression is higher in panicles and callus than in the other tissues.
Evolution
DREB/CBF is one prominent class of transcription factors, which binds to the stress responsive cis-acting elements. DREB/CBF belongs to the ERF(ethylene responsive element binding factors) family of transcription factors. And ERF proteins are a subfamily of the APETLA2 (AP2)/ethylene responsive element binding proteins (EREBP), which are characteristics of plants. The ERF family comprises two subfamilies, the EREBP (single AP2 domain) and AP2/family (two copies of AP2). The EREBP subfamily is further divided into two classes, ERFs and DREBs/CBFs. ERFs bind to the GCCbox found in the promoters of many pathogenesis-related (PR) genes conferring ethylene responsiveness, while DREBs/CBFs bind to the dehydration responsive element (DRE/CRT) in the promoters of cold and dehydration responsive LEA genes including rd29A, rd17, cor6.6, cor15a, erd10 and kin1. The DREBs/CBFs are further divided into two subclasses, DREB1/CBF and DREB2, induced by cold and dehydration stress respectively[2].
OsDREB1F was homologous to DREB or DREB-like TFs from other plants[1]. Colinearity analysis ofDREB1s from rice and Arabidopsis showed that each of the rice homologs possessed colinearity to Arabidopsis DREB1s to some extent[3].
