Function
Gene Ros1a encodes a DNA demethylase, Repressor of silence 1a(Ros1a), which mediates 5-methylcytosine(5-meC) DNA demethylation in rice. It is a bi-functional DNA glycosylases that not only recognize and remove 5-meC from double-stranded DNA, but also has lyase activity, which nicks double-stranded DNA at an abasic site. It plays animportant role in both male and female gametophytes development, fertilization and endosperm development.
