Function
This gene plays an important role in male gametophyte formation and the first internode elongation in rice[1]. As a transcriptional co-repressor it repress a number of genes to regulates various aspects of developmental processes and physiological responses[2]. Its function in branch formation regulation is likely by suppressing primary branch formation and promoting secondary branch formation[3].
Mutation
- At the harvest stage, the height of the Oslis-l1-1 mutant plants was only 48.9 cm, whereas WT plants had a height of 87.3 cm. (Fig. 1a).
- The semi-dwarf phenotype of Oslis-l1-1 was partially due to its panicle length being shortened to 12.1 cm from 20.5 cm in WT.(Fig. 1b).
- The retarded vegetative growth also accompanied by smaller florets (Fig. 1c, d) and very low fertility. In contrast to the WT seed-setting rate (81.4%), the seedsetting rate of Oslis-l1-1 mutant was only 11.3% in the same normal field conditions.
- The 10-seed length and width of oslis-l1-1 was only 84.9 and 70.4% of the WT, respectively (Fig. 1e, f)[1].
