Function

The gene Pi-d2 is found on the sixth chromosome of the "Digu" rice species. It is the major gene of pricula oryzae, and it has an significant effect on the leaf resistance of ZB15 rice species to blast fungus.

Expression

Pi-d2 is a single copy gene, encoding a length of 825 amino acid transmembrane receptor protein kinases (RLK), the kinase containing a hydrophobic amino terminal signal peptide, B-lectin domain, PAN field and TM domain, the carboxy terminus is a typical serine/threonine kinase domain (STK). Because researchers previously have not found RLK outside B-lectin-containing membrane structure in rice, Pi-d2 belong to the new type of resistance genes, which is due to a difference in the anti-sense single base mutation caused by the disease that the 441th amino acid protein isoleucine (I) mutant protein changes to be a susceptible methionine (M) (Chen et al., 2006).
