Phenotype characters

We can get a mutant of rice rim1-1 which resistant to rice dwarf virus by insertion of Tos17. Compared with wild type, the mutant exhibit no dwarf, relatively slow growth, root short, apex sometimes curled up. Mutant rim1-1 only resistant to rice dwarf virus, while not to yellow leaves of rice and rice stripe virus. Over-expression of RIM1 transgenic leads to more sensitiveness to rice dwarf virus(Yoshii et al, 2009).

 Using bioinformatics analysis and complementary functions tests, showing that  is mutant rim1-1 resulted from the second intron of Os03g0119966 gene of Tos17 insertion. Os03g0119966 is named RIM1, the length of ORF is 1953 bp, which contains 7 extrons, it's initial condon starts from the second extron.
 RIM1 has two forms of transcripts, while in the mutants, the contents of those two transcripts is significantly reduced. (Yoshii et al, 2009).RIM1 coding product belongs to the NAC transcription factors, which is homology with arabidopsis ANAC028, and there is no similar genes found in the rice before. RIM1 contains five conservative subregion, nuclear location signal domain and C base side un-conservative area(Yoshii et al, 2009). 
 Whether vaccination RDV or not, some classic host defend genes, for example, PR10a, PR5 and PAL can not be activated by mutant rim1-1, which suggests that  

RIM1 has noting to do with defensive response of effector. Using empoasca carrying rice dwarf virus to vaccinate, we found that mutant rim1-1 also appears same disease spots the wild type. This suggest that mutant rim1-1 has no resistantance to empoasca, while only resistant to rice dwarf virus itself. Mutant rim1-1 does not resistant to rice yellow virus which same carried by empoasca. Also no resistantance to rice stripe virus by the spread of BPH. This shows that mutant rim1-1 only inhibit the rice dwarf virus proliferation and has not influence to the spread of the virus.

 Rice NAC transcription factor  RIM1 is a regulatory factor of jasmonic acid signal transduction pathways(Yoshii et al., 2010).
