NEIL1

Gene symbol NEIL1
Aliases -
Protein Name Endonuclease 8-like 1
Function NEIL1 is a nvolved in base excision repair of DNA damaged by oxidation or by mutagenic agents. Acts as DNA glycosylase that recognizes and removes damaged bases. Has a preference for oxidized pyrimidines, such as thymine glycol, formamidopyrimidine (Fapy) and 5-hydroxyuracil.
Species Human
Editing Sites 1
Disease Lung Cancer;
Description ADAR1 gene-amplified lung cancer cell lines show a higher frequency of A-to-I editing in NEIL1 relative to the ADAR1 normal copy number cells.
