The National Genomics Data Center (NGDC) (https://ngdc.cncb.ac.cn/), established in 2019, is affiliated with Beijing Institute of Genomics, Chinese Academy of Sciences / China National Center for Bioinformation (CNCB). CNCB-NGDC offers a comprehensive suite of database resources to support the global scientific community, committed to continually evolving and updating its core database resources through big data archiving, integrative analysis and value-added curation. Jobs

1. Faculty of both junior and senior levels

Description: We seek dynamic individuals with innovative research programs in bioinformatics, genomics, computational biology and database construction. The successful candidates for the research group leader positions will be expected to develop novel computational or bioinformatics algorithms and methodologies, and/or to use bioinformatics and genomics approaches to address fundamental questions in biology and precision medicine. Candidates are expected to develop independent research programs that can complement or integrate with existing research activities at CNCB.

Qualifications:

Candidates are expected to hold a Ph.D. degree, to have at least three-year postdoctoral research experiences and an outstanding publication record. Senior faculty positions are always open and will be negotiable on an individual basis. The appointment will be at Principal Investigator level, with a competitive start-up package that includes research funding, supporting staff, and personal benefits. Salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with experience.

2. Software Engineer

Description:

  1. Bioinformatics Algorithm Development & Optimization: Design, implement and optimize high-performance computing (HPC) algorithms for bioinformatics applications, with focus on genomics, single-cell omics and spatiotemporal omics
  2. Heterogeneous Computing Architecture Implementation: Accelerate bioinformatics algorithms using heterogeneous computing platforms (CPU/GPU/FPGA) to enhance data processing efficiency
  3. Large-scale Data Processing: Manage and analyze massive biological datasets with optimized data storage, retrieval and computation solutions
  4. Performance Analysis & Tuning: Identify system bottlenecks using profiling tools (gprof, perf, etc.) and optimize code/system for HPC requirements
  5. Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with biology teams to understand biological problems and provide computational solutions

Qualifications:

  1. Education: M.S. or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Biomedical Engineering or related fields
  2. Experience: 3+ years in bioinformatics software or HPC development
    Hands-on experience with HPC and heterogeneous computing architectures preferred
  3. Technical Skills:
    Programming: Expert in C++ Parallel Computing; Proficient in multithreading/parallel programming (OpenMP, MPI)
    Heterogeneous Computing: GPU (CUDA) or FPGA experience preferred
    Data Processing: Skilled in large-scale biological data handling
    Performance Optimization: Experienced with profiling tools and system tuning

3. Curator

Description: Responsibilities will include bioinformation data quality control and curation, annotation and integration of metadata, data access and safety management of genetic data resources.

Qualifications:

  1. M.S. or Ph.D. in bioinformatics, genomics, computer science, mathematics, etc.
  2. Experience with omics data analysis/biocuration
  3. Programming experience with Linux in related scripting languages (i.e. Python/Perl)
  4. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English/Chinese

4. Postdoctoral Fellow

Description: The successful candidates for postdoctoral fellow will be expected to develop novel computational or bioinformatics algorithms and methodologies, and/or to use bioinformatics and genomics approaches to address fundamental questions in biology and precision medicine.

Qualifications:

  1. Recent or pending Ph.D. in bioinformatics, genomics, computer science, or related field
  2. Experience with omics data analysis and publication record as the first author
  3. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English/Chinese
