Abstract

The clinicians agree to a point that the rate of depression increases among the youth.
AIM: The aim of this research was to find answers to three main questions: (1) Was the intensity of depression higher in adolescents from town or village? (2) Was the intensity of depression higher in girls or boys from different environments? (3) Was the intensity of depression changing with sex, school grade and environment?
METHOD: The studied subjects were 1140 adolescents. The Children's Depression Inventory by M. Kovacs was used.
RESULTS: The results indicated that an intensity of depression was significantly higher among adolescents from town than village. In the whole population, girls had a higher rate of depression in comparison to boys. The rate of depression increased with age.
