Abstract

In this article, we present a rare case of a patient who presented with multiple pulmonary cavitary lesions. The hospital course was complicated by massive pulmonary hemorrhage and subsequent cardiac arrest, during which return of spontaneous circulation was not achieved. Bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) cultures taken during the hospital stay only resulted positive for posthumously. Blood cultures, sputum cultures, and remaining BAL cultures were negative. This is a rare case of multiple pulmonary cavitary lesions in the setting of a non-immunocompromised patient without evidence of precipitating disseminated disease. Pulmonary echinococcosis is proposed as a possible differential diagnosis in this patient based on clinical, laboratory, and imaging findings.
