Title:
Effects of sex and aging on the immune cell landscape as assessed by single-cell transcriptomic analysis
Release date:
2021-08-06
Description:
Difference in immune function roots from multiple factors, among which sex and aging have greatest effect. However, the roles of sex and aging in immunity remain elusive. We profiled immunocytes obtained from males and females, young and old, at the single-cell resolution and constructed a precise atlas of blood circulating immunocytes. young females showed stronger T and B cell-mediated immunity and defense response. Aging increased the sex-related differences in immunocytes, with respect to the cellular composition and inflammatory signaling. Males showed higher accumulation of inflammation during aging. Moreover, cell-cell communication presented different trends concerning female and male aging. These findings provide a rich resource for further validation and expansion of molecular understanding of sex-biased disease susceptibility across life span
