Title:
Reconstructing the West-East Genetic Division in Indonesia Using Ancient Genomes
Release date:
2026-03-23
Description:
This study generated new Late Neolithic genomes from western Indonesia and combined them with ancient data to reveal a two-phase genetic division across the Wallace Line, shaped by early Holocene divergence and Neolithic Austronesian expansion. The findings show that long-term demographic processes, migration, and geographic barriers together formed the modern east-west genetic structure of Indonesia.
