Chromosome

RefSeq ID

Characteristics

NPPA-AS is the antisense partner of NPPA, and NPPA-AS overlaps with the intron-exon boundaries of NPPA gene in both mouse and human [1]. The predicted ORF (Open Reading Frame) within NPPA-AS is about 121 amino acids in length [1].

Function

NPPA-AS forms RNA duplexes with NPPA in vivo and modulates NPPA expression at post-transcriptional level [1]. A specific NPPA-AS isoform is capable of down-regulating the intron-retained NPPA mRNA variant [1].

Expression

NPPA-AS is expressed in many human tissues as a collection of alternatively spliced isoforms, while in mouse the expression is observed only in brain [1].

Evolution

Neither the primary structure nor the expression pattern of NPPA-AS is conserved between mouse and human [1].

Disease

Cardiovascular disease [1]
