Single nucleotide polymorphism-based analysis of adaptive mechanisms and population dynamics of Chinese high-altitude sheep breeds
Title | Single nucleotide polymorphism-based analysis of adaptive mechanisms and population dynamics of Chinese high-altitude sheep breeds |

Description | Following extensive periods of both artificial and natural selection, sheep have demonstrated exceptional adaptability to the extreme and harsh conditions of high-altitude environments. To elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying high-altitude adaptation in sheep, we genotyped genome-wide single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of two sheep breeds living at high-altitudes in China and downloaded SNP array data for three Tibetan-lineage sheep breeds from the International Sheep Genomics Consortium (ISGC). Subsequently, we analyzed the population structure, gene flow, and genetic characteristics of the five high-altitude sheep breeds. These findings not only improve our understanding of the adaptation mechanisms of high-altitude sheep, but also lay a solid theoretical foundation for the future breeding of climate-resilient sheep varieties and the optimization of breeding strategies. |
