Untargeted metabolomics reveals the effects of NAFLD on CCR2+ macrophage metabolite profiles in fibrotic kidneys |
| Description |
Renal fibrosis is a key pathological feature of chronic kidney disease (CKD), and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has been linked to the progression of kidney disorders. However, its specific role and mechanisms in renal fibrosis remain unclear. We performed unilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO) surgery on a high-fat diet-induced NAFLD model and found that NAFLD exacerbated the extent of renal fibrosis following the UUO procedure. Our findings revealed that CCR2+ macrophages play a critical role in the worsening of NAFLD-induced renal fibrosis. To further investigate the underlying mechanisms, we employed untargeted metabolomics sequencing to map the metabolic profile of CCR2+ macrophages in fibrotic kidneys. |
