Annotated Information

Function

MYBGA (also called GAMYB) is a GA-inducible R2R3 MYB that binds to the GARE and activates promoters ofa-amylases and other hydrolases in rice.MYBGA is regarded as a major transcription factor in the GA signaling pathway. The rice protein MYBS1 is a sugar-repressible R1MYB that binds to the TA box and activatesa-amylase promoters in rice suspension cells and embryos under sugar starvation. MYBS1 is a positive activator of a-amylase promoters in response to GA and sugar starvation, which further indicates that MYBS1 may serve as amoduleofcrosstalkbetweentheGAand sugarstarvationsig-naling pathways.

Expression

It is induced by nutrient starvation and GA.

Evolution

The rice and barley MYBGAgenes share 88% homology throughout their coding regions and 99% homology in the R2 and R3 repeats.
