The rice Os03g0129300 was reported as OsGAPDHB in 2014[1] by researchers from China.

Annotated Information

Figure 1. The phenotype of TNG67 and its high aroma mutant SA0420.[1].

Gene Symbol

  • Os03g0129300 <=> OsGAPDHB,

Function

  • OsGAPDHB has been proven to be involved in the aroma phenotype of SA0420.
  • The deficiency of OsGAPDHB could increase the fragrance of transgenic lines to the levels higher than that of TNG67 but lower than that of SA0420.

Phenotypic analysis

  • SA0420 is a dominant aromatic mutant obtained from the TNG67 mutant pool developed by sodium azide treatment in our long-term breeding program.
  • It exhibits an agreeable taro-like flavor in leaves as well as grains and the leaf fragrance can be smelled from early seedling to grain filling stages. Leaves and grains also each exhibit similar growth and decline of fragrance toward maturity (Table 1).
  • In addition to aromatic characteristics, SA0420 also possesses a shorter plant height (Fig. 1A), yellow leaf tips and waxy grains (Fig. 1C). A notably higher 2-AP level has been detected both in leaves and grains of SA0420 than in those of TNG67 (Supplemental Fig. S1), consistent with previous observations from other aromatic varieties [3].
  • In this study, the protein profiles of TNG67 and SA0420 were compared at different fragrant levels to identify those proteins related to fragrance during the different developmental stages of leaves and grains
