Gene Symbol

Fig. 5.Subcellular localization of OsBADH1 in plant cells.[1].
Function
- OsBADH1 can catalyzes the oxidation of acetaldehyde efficiently in rice plant peroxisomes.
- The accumulation of OsBADH1 mRNA decreases following submergence treatment, but quickly recovers after re-aeration.
- OsBADH1 is little likely related to rice fragrance, considering the non-significant difference in its mRNA levels between fragrant and non-fragrant rice varieties.
- The author suggested that OsBADH1 possibly functions in oxidizing acetaldehyde which is converted from ethanol by CAT in peroxisomes.
Expression
- To determine the expression patterns of OsBADH1 and OsBADH2 genes under submerged and re-aerobic conditions, 10-d-old seed-lings grown under an aerobic condition were submerged for 24 h and then transferred to an aerobic condition. As a positive control, the expression of OsALDH2a and OsALDH2b genes was also investigated.
- The expression of OsBADH1 and OsBADH2 was decreased by the submerged treatment and recovered to control (0 h) level after re-aeration (Fig. 4A and B). However it must be noted that the decrease of relative expression level of OsBADH1 is lower than that of OsBADH2 under submergence and the recovery of relative expression level of OsBADH1 is quicker than that of OsBADH2 or OsALDH2b under re-aeration.
- This may also support that OsBADH1 is more important than OsBADH2 under submergence and re-aeration.
Subcellular localization
- Subcellular localization analysis of OsBADH1' showd that OsBADH1 localizes in peroxisomes.
