Function
- The rice OsEBS is a newly identified gene which can increase plant height, leaf size and spikelet number per panicle, leading to an increase in total grain yield per plant.
Phenotypic analysis
- OsEBS-transgenic plants and BIL112 (collectively referred to as OsEBS-positive plants) showed significantly different phenotypes to that of the control Guichao2. There were no obvious phenotypic differences at the seedling stage; however, the differences became evident as the plants grew. At the ten-leaf stage, transgenic lines showed greater plant height than control plants (Figure 3a).
- At the flowering stage, the heading time was delayed by approximately 7 days in OsEBS-positive plants. BIL112 and transgenic plants had greater biomass than Guichao2 at maturity (Figure 3b).
- The OsEBS-positive plants had larger leaves, greater plant height, longer internodes, greater culm diameter and more spikelets on the main panicle (Figure 3c–e).
