The rice gene Os06g0598900 was reported as Xa27 in 2005[1] by researchers from Singapore and USA.

Annotated Information

Gene Symbol

  • Os06g0598900 <=> Xa27, OsXa27

Function

  • R-gene specificity is dictated by both host R genes and cognate avirulence (avr) genes in pathogens. The researchers report the cloning of the R gene Xa27 from rice and the cognate avr gene avrXa27 from Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae.

Expression

  • Xa27 is not expressed at detectable levels in rice leaves unless it has been challenged with the incompatible bacteria and, more specifically, in the presence of AvrXa27.
