Annotated Information

Gene Symbol
- Os07g0603700 <=> GE
Function
- GE encodes CYP78A13 protein
- GIANT EMBRYO (GE) gene that is essential for controlling the size balance
- GE function in each tissue is distinct, controlling cell size in the embryo and cell death in the endosperm.
Phenotypic analysis
- All ge mutants produced the phenotype of large embryos at the expense of the endosperm without altering overall seed size (Figure 1a). The ratio of embryo to seed in wild type varied from 8.6% to 10.3% with cultivars.
- On the other hand, the relative embryo size in ge mutants varied from 14.7% to 21.6%. In cultivar(cv.) Kinmaze background, ge-5 produced a larger embryo than other two mutants (ge-1 and ge-4 ).
- Among six ge mutants carrying Taichung 65 (T65) background, ge-9 produced the largest embryo.
