When plants suffer from cold or drought stress, the ABA signal transduction pathway is activated and ZFP245 accumulates

quickly. ZFP245 promotes the accumulation of free proline by activating the expression levels of pyrroline-5-carboxylatesynthetase and proline transporter genes, and enhances the ROS-scavenging ability in plant cells by activating the ROS-scavenging enzymes. Our data suggest that ZFP245 may contribute to the cold and drought tolerance of rice plants by regulating their proline levels and ROS-scavenging abilities and therefore may be useful in the development of transgenic crops with enhanced tolerance to abiotic stress.
