The rice Os10g0516100 was reported as OsGDCH in 2013 [1] by researchers from China.

Annotated Information

Figure 2. Phenotypes of OsGDCH-RNAi plants.[1].

Gene Symbol

  • Os10g0516100 <=> OsGDCH,GDCH

Function

  • Glycine decarboxylase complex (GDC) is a multi-protein complex, comprising P-, H-, T- and L-protein subunits, which plays a major role in photorespiration in plants.
  • The OsGDCH is a typical photorespiratory gene
  • Knockdown of the OsGDCH causes senescence of rice plants under ambient CO2

Phenotypic analysis

  • Under high CO2 (0.8%) conditions, in which photorespiration is inhibited, no substantial difference in phenotype was seen between the OsGDCH-RNAi plants and WT plants.
  • However, after growth under ambient CO2 (0.04%; photorespiratory conditions), obvious changes were observed in the SSPs. Yellowish spots resembling necrotic lesions appeared on the leaves after several hours of exposure to ambient CO2.
  • As time progressed, the plants underwent a progressive change in leaf colour from green to yellow, usually starting from the tips or the margins and spreading towards the leaf base (Fig. 2).
  • This phenotype mimicked a senescence syndrome (Quirino et al. 2000). The syndrome became more severe as time progressed, leading to a complete cessation of growth and finally to the death of SSPs, whereas these phenotypes were not seen in either the MSPs or WT (Fig. 2a–f).

You can also add sub-section(s) at will.

Labs working on this gene

  • State Key Laboratory of Hybrid Rice, College of Life Sciences, Wuhan University, Wuhan, China
