Disease Description: An abnormal condition of scarring of the muscles of the heart.

Disease Symptom: There are several types of endocardial fibroelastosis. Primary endocardial fibroelastosis involves endocardial layer of the left ventricle without any associated congenital abnormality. Another type, designated as secondary endocardial fibroelastosis, often accompanies congenital heart anomalies, such as aortic stenosis, coarctation of the aorta, and abnormal origin of the left coronary artery from the pulmonary trunk.Affected dogs often have signs of left-sided or biventricular heart failure. Heart murmur may be present. Breeds affected by this disease include the Labrador Retriever, Great Dane, English Bulldog, English Springer Spaniel, and Boxer.
