Title Population Structure Analysis and Genome-wide Association Study of a Hexaploid Oat Landrace and Cultivar Collection
Relevance Agricultural
Data types Phenotype or Genotype
Organisms Avena sativa
Description Oat (Avena sativa L.) is an important cereal crop grown worldwide for grain and forage, owing to its high adaptability to diverse environments. However, the genetic and genomics research of oat is lagging behind that of other staple cereal crops. The objectives of the present study were to (1) assess the genetic diversity of an oat collection originating from globally diverse regions; (2) characterize the population structure of the oat germplasm; (3) evaluate the extent of pairwise linkage disequilibrium (LD); and (4) perform GWAS for studying morphological traits. The results of this study would be useful for a deeper understanding and better management of the different kinds of oat genetic resources. This study provides valuable genetic markers for oat breeding programs, and represents a successful example for further association studies in oat.
