miR-455-5p has two A-to-I RNA editing sites, one at mature position 2 and one at mature position 17 The biological function of edited miR-455-5p is different from the unedited form as it recognizes a different set of genes. miR-455-5p promotes melanoma metastasis via inhibition of the tumor suppressor gene CPEB1. Moreover, miR-455 enhances melanoma growth and metastasis in vivo while the edited form inhibits these features. |

The edited form of miR-378a-3p preferentially binds to the 3'UTR of the PARVA oncogene and inhibits its expression, thus preventing the progression of melanoma towards the malignant phenotype. |

According to TCGA data, the tumor suppressor miR-200b is overedited in thyroid tumors, and its levels of editing correlate with a worse progression-free survival and disease stage

ADAR1p150 can promote the biosynthesis and function of miRNA-149* in melanoma cells which makes it be considered as both a bio-marker and a therapeutic target for treatment of melanoma. |
