The government paper 'The Health of the Nation' targets the prevention of certain types of cancers as one of its main priorities. It states that the best chance of saving lives lost to breast and cervical cancer is the screening programmes already in place and that encouraging more women to take part in these programmes could save over 2,500 lives a year. This article is about one woman's experience of breast cancer both as a practice nurse and as a patient. Pamela agreed to be interviewed to describe what it was like to suddenly find yourself on the other side of the fence.
